Giving back is not just about donating money. There is huge value and mana in the gifting of time, for good. We are excited to offer you an opportunity to work with the Village Trust Foodbank, Nurturing Families, and the Puhinui Regeneration Project.
This is the first of many opportunities you’ll have to volunteer your time in the year ahead.
There are two beautiful te reo Māori concepts that these opportunities embody – Maanakitanga which means to extend love and compassion, and to nurture and care for the wellbeing of others. Kotahitanga is the concept of togetherness. Milford Mahi will give you the opportunity to embrace these beautiful concepts, alongside other volunteers that you might not typically work with during a normal day.
The Village Trust provides food parcels for Auckland families in need. This is a truly humble yet impactful charity that has been set-up and managed by Sir Michael and Lady Maliena Jones. It’s continued success relies on volunteers to prepare food parcels each week.
Address: 3/448 Rosebank Road, Avondale, Auckland
When Tayla Nasmith (aged 12 years old), saw children around her without the basic necessities, she knew she could help. As a result, ‘Mummy’s In Need’ was founded in 2012 by Tayla to recognise that urgent need. In 2023 to reflect the fact that the charity was supporting more than just mothers in need the name was changed to Nurturing Families.
Nurturing Families aims to ease poverty by giving all babies a safe and equal start to life and by empowering and uplifting parents and caregivers.
Address: 6/42 Henderson Valley Road, Henderson, Auckland
The Tasks include:
Restocking shelves, sorting donations, and doing dignity checks, and packing the orders that come in.
